City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin mentioned that following the present situation, e nvironment , context and change of public t astes, the pressure of city’s population became overloaded . Earning seeking peoples from remote areas of the country are regularly pouring in the city and we should think otherwise to absorb these over pressure of population through expanding the boundary of the city.
He disclosed it while laying foundation stone the flat-block-cum shopping & community centre project of Chattogram Journalists Housing Cooperative Society at Sher Shah colony area under Baizid thana this morning as Chief Guest.
He said about 15 lakh people will be absorbed in the proposed Mirsarai Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar and Anowara Economic zones.
Most of these workers in these Shipanagar and economic zone, will stay in the city areas and in this context of over populated port city , we should mull the expansion of city areas from now.
City Mayor said this city build up unplanned way and there are no enough civic fa cilities .
City is running without modern slaughter house and no sewerage system.
Mayor said there are a number of residential areas in the city only in name but infact these residential areas became residential-cum- commercial areas.
He urges the journalists to create public opinions about the coming population crisis.
He demanded a fair and planned master plan for the port city . He also cited example of ulitiy services in the city and said roads in the city are again and again cutting by utility service providers for which city corporation is carrying the blames of the sufferings fo the city dwellers.
He urges cooperations from all rather any constructive oppositions for development of the city’s ongoing projects . About the Journalists Housing society , Mayor said a honourable solutions reached between the members after long litigations regarding constructions of flat blocks .
There will be 180 flats for the journalists and in the meantime, inner road construction of the society and street lighting already done by the city corporation, he added.
City Mayor further said CCC election is very near and the party will decide the nomination for Mayor post. He re iterated that if he is elected again, this housing project will be implemented with priority basis .
