UNB, Dhaka :

A Dhaka court on Friday sent actress Pori Moni and her associate Ashraful Islam Dipu to jail turning down their bail pleas. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal passed bail rejection order after hearing both sides.
After two rounds of remand, Pori Moni and Dipu were produced before the court on Friday noon in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Inspector of The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Golam Mostafa placed an appeal before the court for sending them to jail.
According to the appeal, Pori Moni gave some important information about the case during the interrogation when they were on remand. They are being scrutinized in the interest of investigating the case.
“There’s ample evidence of her involvement in the allegations in the case. The investigation is going on,” said CID inspector Golam Mostafa.
Mojibur Rahman, Nilanjana Rifat Surovi and other lawyers appealed for bail on behalf of Pori Moni which was denied by the court.
In this regard, inspector Golam Mostafa said, “It’s absolutely necessary to keep Pori Moni in jail until the investigation of the case is completed. If the accused is released on bail, the investigation into the case may be hampered. There is even the possibility of absconding.”
On Tuesday, a Dhaka court placed actress Pori Moni on a 2-day fresh remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Besides, the court put Ashraful Islam Dipu, an associate of Raj Multimedia owner Nazrul Islam Raj, on a two-day remand in the same case.
Film actress Pori Moni, whose allegation of rape attempt on her by businessman Nasir U Mahmood and others prompted firestorm in social media barely two months back, was detained from her home on August 4.
A case was then filed against the actress under the Narcotics Control Act the following day.
Later, a Dhaka court placed her on a 4-day remand in the case.
The CID has been tasked with investigating the charges brought against her.
They took over the case from the Detective Branch (DB) of police and were carrying out the investigation.
Pori Moni and her associate Raj were actually ringleaders of an organised gang, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab, in a media briefing on August 6.
