The dawn to dusk hartal as called by the Jamaat-e- Islami protesting the execuation of senior Jamaat leader Kamruzzaman in Dhaka central jail on Saturday night passed of peacefully without any major incidents except a arson case in city. Three vehicles were set on fire at Solasahar in city yesterday morning . The arsons attack took place near the ‘Mayor Gali’ at Sholashahar around 8am, said Panchlaish Police OC Mohiuddin Mahmud. No injuries have been reported.
“A stone-laden truck, a van, and a car were parked by the roadside. Shibir activists set fire to them and fled the scene.” Firemen later put out the fire, said OC Mohiuddin.
Regular traffic was seen on the port city streets as both public and private vehicles were out during the shutdown, police said. Educational institutions, offices and factories were running without any hindrances.
Eight activists of the BNP and Jamaat were arrested from Sitakunda and Mirsarai the night before the shutdown, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) Naimul Hasan.
