Poor people of Rupnagar get safe water and sanitation facilities

Development partners, in association with NGOs and community groups are supporting the government of Bangladesh for ensuring inclusive safe water and sanitation facilities for the Low Income Communities (LICs) in Dhaka city, said Chief of Unicef WASH Section in Dhaka Charlie Hrachya Sargsyan.
Addressing the handing over ceremony of 18 safe water points and 16 community latrines among the low income community people at Rupnagar at Mirpur in Dhaka city, he underscored the need for increased availability of safe water points and sanitary latrines for LICs to ensure improved health and hygiene practices for slums dwellers in Dhaka city.
The handing over ceremony was also addressed among others by Abdus Shaheen, Country Program Manager, WSUP Bangladesh, S M A Rashid, Executive Director, NGO Forum for Public Health, Dr. Dayal Ch. Devnath, Head of Health and WASH Unit, Concern Universal, Bangladesh, Md. Shofiqul Alam, WASH Specialist, UNIICEF, Md. Ayub Khan, Project manager, WUSAP and M Nurun Nabi, Project Manager, NGOF for Public Health.
WSUP Bangladesh, in association with NGO Forum for Public Health and the community has organized the handing over ceremony at Rupnagar.
WSUP Bangladesh with support from Unicef, has been implementing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project for the LICs of Dhaka City for the period January 2014 to January 2015 to bring more than 3000 members of 810 households from LICs under safe water and improved sanitation coverage.
Extensive behavioural change communication (BCC) intervention is being implemented involving community groups to improve the health and living standards of households in Bauniabadh, Duaripara, Kurmitola, Rupnagar and Kalshi low income areas in Dhaka city.
