Poor participation turns stock red at week’s close

Trading at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended in red on Thursday, ending the steady rise in the past three consecutive sessions.
The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) – DSEX – finished the week 0.44 percent or 20.39 points lower at 4555.11 when the blue-chip DS30 index followed the suit by 0.70 percent or 11.78 points fall to 1677.79 and the Shariah DSES index by 0.19 percent of 1.98 points to 1012.92.
The day’s trade volume fell to 7.9 crore shares when the value declined to Taka 348.14 crore.
Most of the traded issues incurred loss on the day when share prices of 145 companies decline, 109 increased and 32 remained unchanged. The market demonstrated a mixed trading pattern while investors were switching to lucratively valued scrips. But, general investors’ participation was poor, turning down the turnover and the prices indices.
The previously well performing sectors like telecommunication faced correction at the week’s close following food and allied when cement, real-estate and engineering performed well.
