Kieron Pollard is recalled in to Windies T20I side for the India series along with Darren Bravo who had contract issues with Cricket Windies in the past.
Windies are having a full tour to India to play two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is. The tour has already kick started with the first Test in Rajkot where Windies faced an innings defeat. On 7th October Cricket West Indies has announced the squads for ODI and T20I series against India.
The T20I squad features some key players of the side, who were not part of the team’s recent assignments. Andrew Russell will be back to the T20 squad even though he is unable to play ODIs due to injury. Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo, who were not with the side in recent times, have been welcomed back in to the side.
Kieron Pollard was last seen in Windies camp in September 2017 while Darren Bravo played his last T20I game back in 2014. And notably Bravo is not playing any International cricket for the side since late 2016.
As stated earlier, Chris Gayle is not featuring in any of the two squads as he declined this series and the upcoming Bangladesh tour. But the opener will make himself available for the home series against England.
Even though the big names are missing in the list, Cricket West Indies are viewing this ODI series as a platform for the young bloods to groove themselves ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to be played in England. Some new faces like Chandrapaul Hemraj, Fabian Allen, Oshane Thomas who excelled in the last CPL edition have been included in the squad considering ICC Word T20 in 2020. “With the 2020 ICC World T20 two years away and the limited amount of T20 Internationals within the next year, the panel believes at this juncture it is time to invest in the young players that have emerged over the last two years from Windies A and B teams, along with 2018 CPL,” chairman of selection panel Courtney Browne said.
