General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the poll-time government would be formed with members of the political parties having representation in the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament).
“According to the electoral process, the country’s The minister said this while talking to the media in the Secretariat on Wednesday. “The size of the election-time government will be small like the previous one. And the formation of this government is totally the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister,” he said.
He said, the next general election will be held in time and there is no possibility of the Prime Minister’s resignation before the polls.
The next election will be held as per the electoral procedures, Quader said, adding that elections will not come to halt for anyone.
The government will assist the Election Commission in holding the polls, he said. Awami League will win in the next election because of its huge popularity at the grassroots, he further said.
‘Khaleda Zia can’t participate in election’
Replying to another question, Obaidul Quader said, ‘It is not right to hold the position of the party chief if you are sentenced for corruption.’ The BNP’s manifesto says if any party man is convicted, he/she cannot hold any of the party posts and at the same time can’t participate in the parliament election, he said.
Replying to another question on rally permission, the minister said, ‘When BNP is given permission for holding rally, they say it is due to their pressure, the government has given the permission.’
‘If you are denied permission, then they say there is no democracy in the country. Now you say what the government will do?’
“During the last nine years, did they show any huge public gathering for nine minutes? Now people are in election mode and not in the mode of waging movement. People are now happy with the development activities of the government,” said the minister.
