Chairman of Charlakshya Union of Karnafuli Upazila Mohammad Ali has boycotted the election alleging various irregularities and influence against the Awami League candidate.
He announced his boycott at a press conference at a community center in Charlakshya on Sunday (December 27th) at around 12 noon. Mohammad Ali is the rebel candidate of Awami League and the current chairman.
He participated in this election with the spectacle symbol. He told reporters that the Awami League candidate has been influencing the Center and expelling agents forcibly and activists since morning. Where there is no environment for fair elections, there is no question of holding elections. So I announced the boycott of the election.
However, Awami League nominee Mohammad Solaiman Talukder has denied the allegations. He told reporters that they had already boycotted the election for fear of losing.
Voting is being held smoothly in Charalakshya Union. There was no effect in ballot casting, police sources said.
