Educationists and academics in a discussion today said quality education in different public universities is affected as the universities are now being used for political purposes.
The discussants said a section of public university teachers are now indulged in tailing trifle politics and consequently the public university Vice Chancellors (VC) are appointed on the basis of their political lobby instead of knowledge and wisdom.
They came up with the comment while addressing a book handing over ceremony held at Engineer Abdul Khalek auditorium of Chittagong Press Club yesterday noon.
The book titled “Bangladesh History, Politics, Economy, Society and Culture: Essays in honour of Professor Alamgir Muhammad Serajuddin”, published by University Press Limited was formally handed over to Professor Emeritus and former VC of Chittagong University Alamgir Muhammad Serajuddin.
The 620-page book contains 30 articles written by academics and researchers of different universities at home and abroad.
Addressing the function Alamgir Muhammad Serajuddin said he was immensely honoured by such a tribute paid to him and the book will work as a beacon for students, teachers and researchers in the fields of history, arts, culture and economy.
Presided over by VC of East Delta University Prof M Sekandar Khan, the ceremony was addressed, among others, by former VCs of CU Prof AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury and Prof Anwarul Azim Arif, University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor and Eminent economist Prof Dr Moinul Islam, poet and journalist Abul Momen and editor of the book Prof Dr Mahmudul Hoque.
