Policy to keep control opening of new school, college soon

The government has already completed formulation of a policy to control opening of new school, college and madrasah, Education Ministry sources said. According to the new policy, there should be no educational institution in a rented house, but on own land.
According to the policy, .30 acre of land for rural area and .40 acre of land in urban area is must for a junior secondary school, .25 acre in rural and 30 acre
in urban area for a secondary school, and .60 acre in rural and .45 acre in urban area for a madrasah. On the other hand, .30 acre in rural and .15 in urban area for secondary (Vocational) school.
Education Secretary Dr Mohammad Sadik told The New Nation that the ministry was going to execute a policy to control the new educational institutions.
 “The ministry formed a committee to formulate the policy. They have submitted a draft policy to the ministry, which will discuss about the policy. After the discussion, we will make it final,” education secretary said.
On the other hand, the teachers’ organizations are against the policy. They opined that the education would be commercialised if the government formulated it.  
Bangladesh Teachers’ Association President Nazrul Islam Roni says that the land prices have been increasing day by day. It will be very difficult to establish an institution for a poor educationist. So the whole system will benefit the businessmen who have huge money, he said.
Sources said that the new institution must have own land and building of one thousand square feet. Room for head master, teachers, students’ separate common room, sufficient classroom, library, office, computer laboratory, toilet, fresh water system and science corner have to be ensured.
The authorities of the institution have to create two funds. One is general and another is reserved. Two lakh for the junior secondary school, four lakh for secondary school and six lakh for higher secondary school.
