The government is formulating a policy for rehabilitation people affected by land acquisition aiming at reinforcing and modernizing the land acquisition activities across the country. Land Secretary M Maksudur Rahman Patwary said this as the chief guest on Thursday while attending a workshop before finalising the policy at the Ministry’s conference room here.
“There was no legal provision for the resettlement of people affected by the land acquisition under the previous acquisition law and ordinance, said the Land Secretary, adding the government is formulating policy as per subsection 4 of section 9 of the ‘Immovable Property Lease and Acquisition Act-2017.”
Necessary measures can be taken to rehabilitate the displaced people due to land acquisition in a specified manner, apart from the compensation payment mentioned in this section, said the secretary citing the subsection of the act.
The secretary instructed the officials participating in the workshop to work better at inspecting the field-level office and ensure follow-up measures thereafter, making public hearing, paying compensation with due transparency and properly collecting land revenue. The ministry is regularly monitoring the complaints received in the land service hotline number 16122, he told the workshop. Additional Secretary Md Siraj Uddin Ahmed chaired the workshop while other ministry officials including Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Zainul Bari attended the workshop.
