UNB, Dhaka :
The formulation of a telecast policy for the private television channels is at the final stage, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu told Parliament on Monday.
Responding to a supplementary question of Kamal Ahmed Majumder (Awami League-Dhaka), he said the draft policy for the private television channels is almost final. “We hope, the government will be able to finalize the policy very shortly.”
The Information Minister mentioned that to formulate the policy, the Ministry sat with the stakeholders including the
owners of the TV channels and journalists at different times.
Replying to a starred question of Shamshul Huq Chowdhury (Chittagong-12), he said that the government did not invite any application for establishing private television channel.
“But some applications are now in the Ministry, which were submitted by some individuals and organizations on their own accord,” Inu said, adding that the government has no plan to consider those applications right now.
