Policy for appointing judges to take time: CJ

The Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Wednesday said that they were thinking to draft a policy for appointing judges of the Supreme Court. But it would take time.
He said while addressing a program as the Chief Guest in response to a demand of a lawyers’ leader, ‘If we stop recruiting judges without formulating a policy, then stalemate will be seen in judicial proceedings. So judges recruiting will go on. But we are thinking to draft a policy for appointing judges. In the meantime the Law Minister also told me about this. A policy will be formulated. But it will take time.’
The Chief Justice said this is a discussion meeting arranged under the banner of ‘Role of mother language and local culture to establish unity, development and rule of law’ in the Supreme Court Bar Auditorium. ‘Deshio Sangskritik Parisad’ arranged the program.
Bangladesh Bar Council Vice-Chairman Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder, Supreme Court Bar President Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun and Bar Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan were also present in the program. President of ‘Deshio Sangskritik Parisad’ Advocate Gouranga Chandra Kar presided over the program.
The Chief Justice also said, we have to protect local culture to maintain good relations in the society. Native culture is an asset for all- Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christians. If a nation has the dedication, then nothing is impossible for them to do.
Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder said, local culture is the main source of the national spirit of a nation. Bangabandhu also started movement to protect local culture. Finally he (Bangabandhu) called for the independence.
Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun said that aggression attacked our local culture in the past. But our people resisted this aggression at the cost of blood during our Language Movement.
