Police is still in the dark about the death of college girl Tonu despite peoples’ countrywide continued outrage and demand for justice over the killing.
The body of 19-year-old Shohagi Jahan Tonu had been found in a pool of blood near a culvert in Comilla’s Mainamoti cantonment area on Sunday night.
Investigators and rights activists
believe that Tonu was raped before the murder.
Different cultural and rights organisations on Friday held massive protest across the country through social media, bringing protests rallies and human chains demanding stern action against the culprits involved in the murder of Comilla’s Victoria college student Tonu.
Expressing dismay over the police failure to make any headway in the investigation of the murder and their lethargy in checking crime against women, they also warned of direct action against the persons involved in the crime against women if police fail to prevent the occurrence of such incidents.
The protestors also expressed wonder how such a heinous crime took place in a cantonment area where movements of people are highly restricted with close security vigil.
In Dhaka, protesters under the banner of Gonojagoron Mancha blocked the key intersections at Shahbagh this afternoon demanding justice for the murder.
The Mancha activists blocked the streets to press for exemplary punishment of the culprits.
Besides, Bangladesh Nari Sngbadik Kendra, Muradnagar Chattra Kalyan Parisad and Bangladesh Online Activists Forum brought separate rallies and formed human chain in front of National Press Club to protest the killing.
Speakers, at the rallies, demanded immediate arrest of the culprpls who were involved in the crime.
Besides, people from all walks of life also brought out rallies in Tonu’s home town Comilla protesting over the death.
While talking to The New Nation on Friday night, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Comilla Shah Abid Hossain said that they were doing everything for unfolding the mystery of the killing and who were involved it.
When asked, he said, they were still waiting for the autopsy report to determine whether the girl was raped before the murder.
“We have already made progress in the investigation over the murder, but we cannot say anything else right now for the sake of the investigation,” he added.
Earlier, Tonu’s father had filed a murder case with Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station.
