Police are still in dark about the killing of Italian national Cesare Tavella in the capital although five days passed by this time.
They have not found any specific motive behind the killing as well as any clue as to who were directly involved with the murder, investigation official sources said.
“It is a big challenge at the moment for the detectives to bring the killers to justice. “We’re investigating the case with most importance. Other agencies are also working in this regard,” they said.
Police are also investigating whether any third party was involved with the killing to put the government in an embarrassing situation, they claimed.
The killers had cleverly chosen such area where the street lights were not working and there was few or no CCTV surveillance, said Muntasirul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The killers probably did not use any mobile phone as police had not yet traced any communication of that sort near the crime scene during the time of the murder, he said.
Cesare Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities
for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on Monday evening.
Earlier on Monday night, Heleen Van Der Beek, country Representative of ICCO Cooperation, Bangladesh Office, filed the case with Gulshan police station.
On Tuesday, a day after the murder, the charge of investigation was transferred from Gulshan police to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Detective Branch (DB).
