Police sincere to resist repression on women, children: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Monday said that police have been working for a long time with the sincerity to resist the repression on women and children across the country.
The force is trying to make all police stations as friendly as possible for females and infants.
The investigation capacity and capability of the cop personnel have already been increased in a large scale.
The IGP said this as chief guest at an inaugural program me titled ‘Sustainable Initiative to Protect Women and Girls from Gender Based Violence (GBV), (STOP-GBV) Project’ at Hotel Sonagaon in the city on Saturday.
The Deputy Inspector General (Special Crime Management) of Police Headquarters Dr AFM Masum Rabbani presided over the programme where UN Residential Coordinator Ms Mia Seppo and UNFPA representative Mr Iori Kato were present as the special guests.
“It is not possible for police and any other organisation to resist the suppression on women and children. To increase the coordination and cooperation among the organisations led by government, non-government, national and international to fulfil the target,” the IGP said.
We are trying to help such as all victims after receiving the information of repression, he added.
Police are working for capacity build up for its members and increasing public awareness to resist tyranny on women and children under the project with the fund of the UNFP, said a press signed by Sahely Ferdous, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters.
The project will be continued till 2020 while the activities already have been launched in 51 police stations of four districts. In the meantime, 12 women help desks have been started under this project. Even three projects will be started in Bogra district, it said.
Police are working for safety and legal aid for tortured women and children in eight ‘Victim Support Centers’ in seven divisional cities and Rangmati district, it mentioned.
Additional IGP (administration and operations) Md Mokhlesur Rahman gave his welcome speech in the event where high ranked UN officials, NGO personalities and cops officials, among others were present.
