Staff Reporter :At least five workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory have been injured after police charged baton on them during a demonstration programme in front of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) building in the capital’s Kawran Bazar area on Monday.The injured workers were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said the hospital’s Police Outpost on-duty officer SI Sentu Das.Of the injured, two are operators Roksana and Jakir received serious injuries, he said.The clash erupted in front of BGMEA building when the agitated workers were trying to enter into the building to fulfil due wages. The BGMEA, however, at that time, assured the workers that they would be paid after a discussion with the owner of the factory, in this regard.Earlier, Soan Group Garment workers issued a one-week ultimatum to BGMEA to pay due wages for workers of the closed factory and to reopen it soon.”If we, of the closed factory workers, are not paid our dues within one week, we will go for a tougher movement,” the workers warned authorities concerned.
