Organisations upholding the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War attempted to “gherao” (surround) the residence of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday, but police foiled their attempt. The protestors, who are upset with Khaleda’s remarks about how many people died during the Liberation War, started a sit-in demonstration at the Gulshan-2 crossing.Activists of the Sector Commanders Forum, Nirmul Committee and Ganajagaran Mancha gathered at the Gulshan-2 crossing and then marched towards Khaleda’s house to surround it. They are demanding her arrest for the remarks they say undermine the spirit of the Liberation War and they want a law in the next session of the parliament to prosecute her. The protestors also dismissed as nonsense BNP leader Gayeswar Roy’s comments about the number of deaths during the 1971 war and the intellectuals martyred at the time.–bdnews24.com
