113 cop members tested positive in 24 hrs: Police prepare 650 beds hospitals

A total of 113 cop members tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 854. Meanwhile, five members of the law enforcement died of Covid-19 till Saturday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases.
According to data, 93 policemen posted at DMP tested positive in the last 24 hours, raising the confirmed cases in the unit to 449.
Besides, 315 are in isolation as they showed Covid-19 like symptoms while 1,250 others, who were in close contacts with the infected ones, are put in quarantine, the data shows.
Policemen have been working to maintain social distancing since the beginning of the outbreak with barely any protective gears. As the number of infected police personnel increased, the PHQ asked its members to ensure their own protection while performing their duties.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has provided protective gears to DMP to ensure safety of police personnel while on duty.
Our own hospital has 250 beds for the patients while two other rented private hospitals have more than 400 beds for the patients, IGP said.
Even police are going to set up own PCR Lab and 50 ICU beds so that they can perform their test without help of others organization, IGP further said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters (Media) Md Sohel Rana said they are trying to ensure protection of police members.
