Police will launch a weeklong crackdown against the militants across the country from today (Friday).
The decision was taken at a three-hour long meeting at Police Headquarters in the city on Thursday with Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque in the chair, said a police press release.

In the wake of recent spate of targeted killings by the suspected militant groups, the police force will continue their drives for seven days in a bid to combat militants and terrorists in the country, engaged in the killings.
“Apart from the killings, the police force drive will continue to resist subversive activities of the militants and terrorists so that they can not reassemble and prepare for doing so again,” the IGP was quoted as saying in the meeting.
The IGP laid emphasis on strengthening anti-militant campaigns and utilization of community policing for gleaning information about militants and criminals.
Terming the killing of Police Super’s wife heinous, barbarous and painful, the IGP asked all concerned to bring the killers under the ambit of law within shortest possible time.
He also asked the police officials to discharge their duties with strong mentality and professionally.
According to sources, apart from the police, RAB and BGB have to stay alert all the time in every place of the country. If any subversive activity happens in any place of the country, the law enforcers will conduct drives right away.
When contacted Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told The New Nation on Thursday that no such situation has developed in the country that law enforcers will have to be called for a crackdown across the country to net the militants.
“However, law enforcers launched a massive hunt at different places in Chittagong to nab the killers of police official’s wife Mitu. Special team comprising veteran police officers was formed to track down her killers. We hope to catch the killers soon,” he said.
He further said several teams of investigators have been constituted to hunt down the killers of the police official’s wife.
