A police inspector was killed when a covered van smashed his private car in Narayanganj’s Araihazar at early hours of Tuesday.
Deceased Shafiullah Jewel, 45, a resident of Purinda village in the upazila, was the inspector of Turag Police Station in the capital.
Police and local people said the police official met the accident around 12:30am while returning home from his workplace. The accident took place due to dense fog.
The covered van rammed into his car on
the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, leaving him injured.
Critically wounded Jewel was rushed to US Bangla Hospital in Rupganj where he was declared dead on arrival, Araihazar Police Station OC Anisur Rahman Mollah confirmed.
Shafiullah Jewel left behind wife, a son and a daughter.
