A police officer was killed in a road accident at Bhatai Bazar on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway on Tuesday afternoon in Jhenaidah district. At the same time, deceased’s wife, daughter, and another biker sustained injuries.
The deceased identified as Jahidul Islam, 40, hailed from Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia district. He was serving the Narail District Detective Branch (DB) of Police as a Sub-Inspector.
Gopinath Kanjilal, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Jhenaidah Sadar circle said, Jahidul, accompanied by his wife and daughter was going towards his father-in-law’s house at Sailkupa upazila from his residence at Jhenaidah town by a motorbike. When he reached nearly Bhatai Bazar, another motor cyclist Sumon from the opposite direction hit him.
Jahidul, his wife Salma Khatun, daughter Tinni and other biker Suman sustained injuries. Locals rescued them and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where Jahidul succumbed to his injuries.
Sailkupa Thana Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam said, they are processing for filing a case in this connection.
