Manir Hossain from Naryanganj :
Police have failed to find a vital clue to unearth the mystery behind the Narayanganj five-murder incident though they have already spent more than 48 hours to get a lead to the sensational crime.
Not only that, the police are still in dark about the motive of the gruesome killings, where the murderers killed two children apparently to conceal their identities.
In this backdrop, the Police Headquarters have directed the concerned authority to transfer the Narayanganj five-murder case to the Detective Branch of police for ‘better investigation’.
“The case was transferred to the district DB on Sunday night for better investigation. So far as I know, the overall investigation has made satisfactory progress. However, we cannot disclose about the progress now,” Mohid Uddin, Superintendent of Police, said on Monday.
When asked about the motive behind the gruesome killings, the SP said, “We are trying to unearth the motive behind the murder. Presently, we have no lead on the murder motive…. Personal relations or money matters could be behind the killings. We hope to solve the mystery soon.”
“The police are conducting investigation based on the evidence collected from the spot and statements of the detainees; those were caught soon after the murder. The detainees are — Mahfuz, a nephew of Shafiqul, and Sharif, and Shahzada, a cousin of victim Morshed,” the SP added.
A competent source of police said that they are carrying forward the probe putting emphasis on money dealings and family feud.
Police on Saturday night recovered the bodies of five members of a family in a house in the Baburail area of Narayanganj sadar upazila. The victims were identified as Taslima, 35, her daughter Sumaiya, 7, son Shanto, 10, brother Morshedul Islam, 20, and sister-in-law Lamia, 20.
Murdered Taslima’s husband Shafiqul Islam filed a case with Sadar Police Station on Sunday morning where Sub-Inspector Hamidul Islam had been made investigation officer in the case.
In the case complaint, Shafiqul said that his wife Taslima owed Najma, Shahjahan and others of Dhaka’s Kalabagan about Tk 1.2 million taken at a monthly compound interest. The creditors often used to come to their Narayanganj residence and threaten them for the recovery of the debt. Taslima’s brother Morshed also owed them a lot of money because of business deals, the case statement said.
It was also mentioned in the case statement that Mahfuz used to make indecent proposals to his aunt Lamia.
“Shafiqul’s nephew Mahfuz and Morshed’s cousin Shahzada have been detained. Eight other people are also being questioned,” Abdul Malek, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station said.
The OC said, “Unidentified criminals had killed five members of the family in between 10:30pm on January 15 and 8:20pm on January 16. After that, Taslima and Morshed’s mobile phones were missing.”
Quoting statement of detainees provided during interrogating, a source close to the investigators said that Police now suspect Mahfuz, a member of the victim’s family, as a key player of the killing mission.
