A constable of Rainagar River police camp was killed by a bullet ‘accidentally fired from his own gun’ near Koikhali Forest Camp in the Sundarbans here on Thursday.
Tipped off, a team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and river police conducted a drive at Bashukhali Canal in the Sundarbans and rescued four fishermen abducted by forest robbers in the afternoon, said Mantu Kumar Das, in-charge of Rainagar River police camp.
Later, the rescued fishermen were handed over to Koikhali Forest camp.
After the drive, all the river police boarded a trawler to return to their camp, he said.
At one stage, Miaraz Hossain, 32, a constable of the river police camp, hailing from Rajshahi district, ‘received a bullet accidentally fired from his own gun’ inside the trawler and died on the spot, said Mantu.
