Police JCD workers clash in Dhaka, Mymensingh

Police arrested at least five activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from Nayapaltan area in the capital on Thursday.
Confirming the matter, Paltan police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique said that police arrested five people in front of the BNP central office, reports UNB.
‘They (BNP and Chhatra Dal activists) blocked the road and attacked police when they were asked to vacate the road. Than police picked five people for their alleged involvement in the attack on police and for creating obstacles on public movement,’ the police officer said.
He said that police were scrutinising the identities of the nabbed people and a case was under process.
Besides, witnesses said that Chhatra Dal activists brought out a procession led by its president Fazlur Rahman Khokon protesting the attack on a discussion programme of Chatta Dal Mymensingh Division unit in Mymensingh.
New Age correspondent in Mymensingh reported that at least 30 people, including police members, were injured in a clash between police and the Chhatra Dal activists.
The incident was initiated after police carried out an attack on the Chhatra Dal’s programme organised marking the 40th death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Mymensingh’s kotwali police officer-in-charge  
(investigation) Faruk Hossain said that police arrested eight leaders and activists of the Chhatra Dal and seized 20 motorcycles over the incident.
About the matter, Syed Emran Saleh Prince said that police arrested at least 15 activists in Dhaka while some JCD activists suffered bullet injuries in Mymensingh.
He said that many BNP and JCD leaders and activists were forced to remain confined in the party’s central office as police were arresting people who were trying to exit or enter the office.
