Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed instructed to field level police officers to ensure smooth movement of homebound passengers during the Eid-ul-Fitr.
He made the directive at a virtual meeting held on Thursday with all metropolitan, range and district police superintendents and specialized units in the conference room of police headquarters in the city.
“Many people will go to their villages ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr,” the IGP said.
He said people safety should be ensured through coordination with other police units, adding, “Ensure security measure through bit policing and community policing.”
The IGP called upon the police officers to co-operate if anyone falls problem during the Eid journey.
Additional IGPs Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury and M Khurshid Hossain, DIGs YM Belalur Rahman and Md Haider Ali Khan and concerned officials were present in the meeting.
Dr Benazir urged people for taking police assistance with large-scale financial transactions.
He directed the specialized river police, industrial police, highway police and tourist police units to take adequate security measures in their respective jurisdictions on the occasion of the Eid.
At the meeting, it was decided to deploy women police and white-clothe police along with police in shopping malls, banks and financial institutions.
It also decided to ensure the security of the country’s main Eid Jamaat, including the National Eidgah.
The meeting urged passengers not to travel on the roofs of buses and trains and on boats with their life risk.
