The throat-slit body of a police informant was found in a river in Jhumjhumpur Chander Mor in the district town on Friday morning.
Locals spotted the body of Abdur Rahman alias Ruman, 21, son of Ashraf Ali Fakir, a resident of Sitarampur Dakhshinpara area, in a sack in the river and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore General Hospital for autopsy, said A K M Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Family sources said Ruman worked as an informant of police. He went out of the house on Thursday afternoon and they found his phone switched off after 10pm.
