UNB, Dhaka :
Police on Friday interrogated two women over the Thursday night’s triple murder in the city’s Moghbazar area as the law enforcers identified the motive behind the killing.
The two women, who are aunts of prime suspect Kailya Babu, were grilled at Ramna Police Station over the incident, said sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman.
He, however, declined to disclose the names of the
two women, saying they were released after interrogation.
Meanwhile, disputes over grabbing railway land and establishing supremacy in the locality had been the prime reasons behind the brutal murder of three people, investigation agencies confirmed.
They have already identified most of the killers who took part in the killing mission. However, none of them was arrested despite frantic efforts, including overnight raids conducted by police and other agencies.
Contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna Zone) Shibly Noman said the occupation of the railway land and extortion had been the main reason behind the triple murder.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman said prima facie, they could identify the motive behind the killing and those who were involved in the gruesome murder.
He hoped that the killers will be arrested soon as police and other law enforcement agencies are in the field.
Unidentified assailants gunned down three people, including a woman, and injured another in a house at Sonalibagh in the city’s Moghbazar area on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Ranu Akhter Bristi, 28, wife of Mohammad Abul Hossain, her younger brother Hridoy’s friends-Munna, 20, and Bilal Hossain, 25. Hridoy also sustained bullet injuries and he has been fighting for his life at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police sources said there had long been an intense rivalry among three alleged local land grabbers and extortionists-Kailya Babu, Kala Chand (Bristi’s elder bother) and Rony. They were learnt to be close associates of listed top terror Jisan in the past.
Police said Kailya Babu was wanted in several cases, including an Ansar member killing. Besides, Rony is the prime accused in local Swechhasebak League leader Mahbubur Rahman killing case while Kala Chand is well known as a land grabber as well as an extortionist.
Locals and police said Kailya Babu grabbed a small piece of Railway land at 78 Sonalibagh. Then, Rony took the possession of the land one year back showing muscle power. Finally, Kala Chand bought the land from Rony 7-8 months ago and he built four small semi-pucca rooms on the land.
Police, quoting local, said Kala Chand’s brother Hridoy and Hridoy’s friends Bilal and Munna were staying inside a room when Kailya Babu along with his accomplices stormed into the house at about 8:15 pm on Thursday.
The gunmen sprayed bullets on the house inmates, leaving Bilal and Munna dead on the spot. Besides, Bristy, who received bullet wounds in the attack, succumbed to her injuries at the DMCH.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the three victims were handed over to the family members on Friday afternoon after post-mortem at the DMCH.
