A police constable allegedly killed himself by firing at the office of the superintendent of police of Bagerhat on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Prolob Sen, 21, son of Projib Sen, of Radha Madhob village in Digholia upazila of Khulna district.
Police super Nizamul Haque Mollah of Bagerhat said while on duty as a sentry at his office around 8:00am, Prolob suddenly opened a shot at his own throat from his rifle, which pierced through the head, leaving him dead on the spot.
Hearing the sound of the firing, other policemen rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
