Staff Reporter :
Pallabi police completed interrogation of three arrestees during their seven-day remand in connection with a case filed against them under the Arms Act.
The arrestees are: Shahidul Islam (23), Mosharraf Hossain (26), and Rafiqul Islam (40).
Md Farukuzzaman, a sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station and also the investigation officer (IO) of
the case, on Friday submitted a forwarding report to a Dhaka court on completion of the interrogation.
In the forwarding report, the IO said he took them in custody for seven days for questioning on July 30.
The three arrestees gave important information about the incident, which was being verified, and so the IO appealed to the court to keep them in jail until his probe is completed, the IO told the court.
Metropolitan Magistrate Debbrata Biswas sent them to jail in the arms case and allowed police to take them on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act, which was granted on July 30.
On July 29, amid an existing security alert, a bomb fitted inside a “weighing machine” which police seized during a drive exploded inside Pallabi Police Station, injuring four policemen and a support staff of the station.
Police said they raided a place in Kalshi on July 28 and arrested three people after learning of a possible “criminal act” by a gang.
The police team recovered two pistols, four rounds of bullets and something that looked like a weighing machine from their possession.
Wondering why the suspects would carry a weighing machine, the officers called DMP’s bomb disposal unit. After examining the device, the unit recommended further inspection by a more experienced squad.
But it exploded around 6:00am, before the special team arrived.
Following the incidents, Pallabi police filed two cases-one under the Arms Act and the other under Explosive Substances Act-against the three arrestees with the police station in this connection.
