Police body to trace Salahuddin formed

Being instructed by the high-ups of the government, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a search committee to trace the location of BNP’s Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, who went missing since last 13 days.
The five-member committee led-by a Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (crime and operations) Meer Rezaul Alam will investigate Salahuddin’s hiding or disappearance, said Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch told on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Najmul Alam (South zone of DB) and two others Assistant Commissioners have been enlisted in the committee, he said.
The team would have examine whether former BNP state minister Salahuddin went to self-hiding to push the government into a trap, or it was one kind of BNP tactics to speed up their ongoing movement, Monirul Islam stated.
“We are investigating the involvement of the gangs of militants and abductors with the incident,” the DB man said.
In the meanwhile, the committee has started analyzing the statements, those were issued by Salahuddin on behalf of 20-party alliance, his political and social contacts at home and abroad.
Besides, the movement of Salahuddin’s family members and some senior leaders of BNP-led alliance have been brought under close vigilance.
Monirul Islam alleged that Salahuddin might have missing for the personal, family or political reasons. “We are keeping close touch with the other foreign connections,” he said.
According to Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed, her husband was picked up by detective members from a residence in the city’s Uttara on March 10.
