Police beef up surveillance ahead of Aug 15

Hotels and guest houses adjacent to the Dhanmondi 32 and Banani Graveyard areas will remain shut from August 14 to 15 for security reasons.

Police Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam inspected the security measures taken by a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Dhanmondi 32 on Thursday, said press release issued by the force.
“Those who spread propaganda, provocative posts, rumours and misleading information through social media platforms and are trying to destabilize the law and order situation would be strictly monitored and brought under the law,” read the release.
The Dhanmondi 32 and Banani graveyard will be covered by CCTV cameras. There will be round-the-clock CCTV monitoring from the venue-centric temporary police control room.
“There will be a central announcement system at Dhanmondi 32 to give various directions to the people who will come to lay wreaths. There will be pure drinking water for the incoming people, added the release.
“Adequate police personnel in uniform and in plain clothes will be deployed to ensure flawless security at the locations.
“Sweeping will also be done with the Dog Squad and Bomb Disposal Unit. Naval police patrol will be deployed in Dhanmondi Lake. Fire tenders and ambulances will be deployed at Dhanmondi 32-centric security around the August 15 event. Medical teams will be present at the two venues for first aid,” said the release.
DMP has sought the full cooperation of the esteemed city dwellers to ensure discipline and safety in compliance with the health guidelines prescribed by the government to prevent coronary heart disease during the National Mourning Day program.
The statement also said that to ensure security, every person who comes to pay homage to the Bangabandhu portraits of Dhanmondi 32 have to enter through the archway with a hand metal detector.
Similarly, Banani cemetery will also have archways, check-posts and everyone will have to enter through search. Search, block raids and check-posts are being carried out to ensure the safety of the visitors.
Intelligence surveillance has been stepped up and a sufficient number of police personnel have been deployed. There will be volunteers.
According to DMP, VVIPs, VIPs, military and civilian officials will enter Dhanmondi-32 through Manik Mia Avenue (Dhanmondi 27 crossing), Mirpur Road (Metro Shopping Mall intersection), on the west end of Dhanmondi 32 and exit on the same route.
One-way movement of various parties, organizations and public will enter from the east side of Dhanmondi 32 and exit from the west side.
On the occasion of the day of mourning, a designated place has been set aside for parking of vehicles at Dhanmondi 32 and Banani cemetery. The DMP also mentioned that motorcycle parking is prohibited around Mirpur Road and Dhanmondi 32.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, DMP Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam inspected the security arrangements in Dhanmondi 32 area.
