Women rights activists on Tuesday denounced the police attack on Bangladesh Students Union (BSU) activists during their protest against the Dhaka University sexual assault incident.
On Sunday, about one hundred BSU activists came under police attack near Officers’ Club on Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani as they tried to lay siege to the DMP headquarters in protest against the perpetrators of sexual harassment against women
on the Dhaka University campus on April 14 not being arrested. Addressing a discussion, organised by Bangladesh Nari Mukti Sangsad at Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday, the speakers the demanded immediate action against the police officials involved in the incident.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal presidium member Shirin Akhter, MP, Nari Oikya president Lutfunnesa Khan , Bangladesh Mahila Parishad secretary Rakhi Das Purakayastha, Bangladesh Workers Party central leader Bimal Biswas spoke on the occasion.
Shirin Akhter said people do not expect the police attacks on protesters including women during this government’s regime.
Terming the attack as an attack on women’s freedom she also sought immediate action against involved police officials.
