Police assault 2 journos in city

Police assaulted two journalists in the city when they were covering BNP’s black-flag demonstration programme in front of the party’s Nayapaltan office on Saturday morning.
One of them was Kiron Sheikh, Senior Reporter of Bangladesh Journal, an online-based news portal. Another one was Kamrul Hasan, Staff Reporter of Bangla Daily Samakal.
Kiron Sheikh said, police were dragging him while he walking through the pavement towards the BNP office at Nayapaltan.
 “Police punched me,
kicked me and threw me pushing on the road after I told them that I am a journalist,” Kiron Sheikh said.
He also said, that the police used indecent words when he wanted to know the reasons of humiliating.
Police also tried to detain another journalist Kamrul Hasan from the same place. However, they freed him after other journalists protested.
When asked about the matter, Ariful Islam, the Assistant Commissioner (Motijheel Zone) of Police said, “It was an unwanted incident. When police moved for any big operation, such an incident may take place. We try our best to avoid such incident matters.”
He said, we are sorry for the matter. Our DC of Motijheel Zone also said sorry for it. There is nothing more to do for us.
