Chawkbazar fire: Police asked to submit probe report by June 17

A Dhaka court yesterday (Wednesday) asked police to submit a probe report on June 17 in the case filed over Chawkbazar’s Churihatta inferno that left 71 people dead and 55 injured.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam passed the order as Chawkbazar Police Station Inspector Md Muradul Islam and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case could not submit report on Wednesday.
At least 71 people were killed and around 55 others injured in the devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other adjacent buildings at Churihatta in Chawkbazar area on the night of February 20. Later, Asif, a local resident, filed the case with the Chawkbazar Model Police Station.
The case filed under the Penal Code, accused two sons of Hazi Abdul Wahed, who owned one of the five buildings damaged by the fire and 10-12 unnamed persons. The case was filed Under Sections of 304 (A), 436, 427 and 34 of the Penal Code for death by negligence, sabotage and damage of goods.
Two accused Md Hasan and Sohel surrendered before a subordinate court on April 2, while the court ordered to send them to the jail.
