Police arrested eight members of “grill cutting gang” in simultaneous drives in Dhaka city and adjoining Keraniganj on Sunday.
The drive was conducted by Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), an official said. The arrestees were identified as Md. Russel, Md. Shipon Mridha, Md. Al Amin, Md. Matiur Rahman alias Mehedi Hasan, Md. Nasir Sheikh, Md. Deen Islam, Md. Amir Hossain alias Bepari and Md. Ilias Mia.
Assistant Commissioner (DB- Lalbagh Division’s Organized Crime and Car Theft Prevention Team ) Madhusudan Das, said a DB team carried out drives at different areas of Kotwali, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar in the capital and Keraniganj.
The gangster first recce houses left by residents during Eid holidays before stealing the valuables. They also steal motorcycles kept in the garage. There are cases of theft, snatching, extortion, fraud, drugs, rape and even murder against the arrestees in several police stations of DMP including Keraniganj police station in Dhaka, Bandar police station in Narayanganj, Louhjong in Munshiganj, Jajira in Shariatpur and Indurkani in Pirojpur.
