Staff Reporter :Chuadanga District Police on Tuesday armed villagers with bamboo sticks and whistle to defend themselves from militant attacks.”We have taken the move in the wake of growing militant attacks across the country,” Rashidul Hasan, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chuadanga, told The New Nation on Wednesday night. Terming it as a police’s new strategy to curb militancy, he said, his department wants to empower and engage people so that they can act against militants.”It will also help police initial intelligence gathering and enhance the law enforcing agencies ability to prevent militants from attacking people,” said Hasan.The SP further said that his department will hold meetings with the villagers time to time to take measures to keep their own villages safe from militant attacks.”These initiatives will make the people more cautious about their safety and united against militancy and other crimes,” he said.
