Police officials at a function underscored the need for enhancing and strengthening relationship between police and NGO men in a bid to curb crimes, eliminate social curses and maintain law and order situation in the society.”The officials and the staff of NGOs could play significant role to curb and prevent crimes side by side with eradicating social evils to build a peaceful society through providing their cooperation to the police”, they said.
They made the comments recently while addressing a programme sharing meeting with Kurigram district police at the conference room of Police Super in Gaibandha.Friendship, a leading NGO in the country, arranged the meeting under Friendship Inclusive Citizenship Sector with the financial support of ERIKS development partner, Sweden and Friendship Luxemburg, French. Police super Mohibul Islam Khan addressed the meeting as the chief guest and additional police super Menhajul Alam was present at the event as the special guest while deputy general manager of Friendship Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman presided over the function.
Earlier, DGM of Friendship Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman made a power point presentation describing overall activities of the reputed development organization Friendship while program manager of the organization Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan presented the significant works of Inclusive Citizenship through multimedia projector.
Police super Mohibul Islam Khan in his speeches said close coordination between the police and the development organizations are very essential to maintain law and order situation in the hard to reach chars of the district as it was not possible to ensure congenial environment there for a single department.
Their joint and comprehensive efforts could check the social evils and curses including early marriage, dowry, eve teasing, terrorism, drug abuse and militancy in the chars, the police super added.
The commitment of the police and the holistic approach of the development workers also might play vital role from their respective position in changing the socio-economic conditions of the char dwellers and improving their livelihoods as well, the police super further added.
He also suggested development workers for identifying local problems, conflicts and minor disputes to resolve those locally with assistance of common people and police without any hassle.
The police super highly lauded the overall activities-of Friendship on education, health legal aid and good governance aimed at pushing forward the backward chars and its people here towards development and thanked the Friendship for arranging such the meeting for developing the relationship between the police officials and the Friendship ones. Assistant police supers in circles, officers in charge of all thanas of the district also took part in the meeting.
