Staff Reporter :
Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque on Thursday said that the police department will take extra precaution while verifying candidates’ information before recruiting them into government service.
The IGP said that ‘political identity’ of the candidates would not be taken under active consideration for selecting them for government jobs. Instead, the police would intensively verify whether the candidates are involved in criminal activities, or there is any case against the candidate on charge of sabotage or terrorism in his own area.
He came up with the disclosure while talking to the newsmen after attending a training programme on trans-national crime SAARC perspective held at Police Staff College in the city’s Mirpur. Senior officials from SAARC countries, including Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, took part in the training.
In fact, the statement of IGP came just a day after the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a speech in the Parliament [on Wednesday] asked the police department to remain cautious so that Jamaat-Shibirmen cannot get entry in police jobs.
“Political identity won’t be an obstacle for the candidates to get a job in the police department, if the candidates haven’t any involvement in criminal activities. A Jamaat worker will also get job in police force, if he is not involved in crimes,” the IGP said.
He said, “Usually, the criminals or those who have bad report of their involvement in crimes, or facing criminal cases — are not eligible for government jobs. The Prime Minister has reminded us this matter, as we can remain more cautious during candidates’ verification.”
“It is totally political matter to remain entangled with Jamaat-Shibir. Besides, Jamaat-Shibir is not a banned organization. If they are involved in any criminal activities, in that case they will not be selected. …..We don’t see who is involved with Awami League, or BNP, or Jamaat,” he said.
Meanwhile, analyzing the difference between organized crime and terrorism, the IGP further said, “The organized crime and terrorism are totally different matters. Organized crimes are directly linked with illegal arms, drugs and human trafficking. But terrorism is multi-dimensional.”
“In the modern days, the criminals have made the entire world as their playing field. And for that reason, the members of international crime rackets remain active crossing the boundaries,” the IGP said.
