Academics and officials at a discussion has termed spiritual poet of the middle-ages Kobi Kazi Heyat Mamud as a great sage of knowledge for his remarkable contributing to Bengali literature.
Rangpur district administration organised the discussion in observance of the death anniversary of the poet on Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa premises at his native Jharbishla village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district on Friday evening.
The death anniversary of Heyat is being observed officially from 2004 on February 18 every year.
A large number of followers of Kobi Hayat gather at Jharbishla village on his death anniversary to celebrate his annual ‘Urs Mubarak’ every year for centuries together.
The district administration arranged ‘Qur’an Khwani’, ‘Mazar Ziarat’, and milad mahfil, recitation of Hamd and Naats and essay competitions for students and prize distribution function.
With Pirganj municipal Mayor and General Secretary of Pirganj upazila Awami League Abu Saleh Md. Tazimul Islam Shameem in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani attended the discussion as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, Assistant Commissioner (land) Khairul Islam, local union parisahd Chairman Arifur Rahman Shah, addressed as special guests.
Family member Sadiya Afrin (eighth generation) of Kobi Kazi Heyat Mamud delivered a welcome speech saying that the ideas expressed by Kobi Heyat through literary works helped enrich modern Bengali literature.
Principal of Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa Molani Abdus Salek Sarker conducted special munajats seeking divine blessings and eternal peace for the departed soul of the late poet.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Government Begum Rokeya College, Rangpur Professor Mohammad Shah Alam delivered a keynote essay on ‘The art value, spiritual thought and social picture of literary works of Kobi Kazi Heyat Mamud’.
