Noted journalist and poet Fazal Shahabuddin passed away at his Khilgaon residence here at 10.45am yesterday. He was 78.
Shahabuddin had been suffering from old-age complications.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
The first Namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at Bashabo playground this afternoon, while the second was held at Jatiya Press Club after Asr prayers, where former President Hussein Mohammad Ershad, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and a large number of well-wishers joined.
Fazal was buried at Banani graveyard on Sunday evening following third namaj-e-janaza at Bangla Academy premises.
Journalist Fazal received Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Padak and many national and international awards for his outstanding contributions.
He was born in Dhaka in 1936.
Poet Fazal was founder editor of the weekly “Bichitra” and published Binodon magazine in 1964. He worked in the Dainik Pakistan and the Bangladesh Observer. Earlier, he also worked at the Bangladesh Postal Department.
