Prof ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Bagerhat :
Law enforcing agencies recovered more than one head and skins during the last few months when they raided in and around of Sundaarbans, the biggest mangrove forest in the world.
It indicates that poachers are now very active in hunting deer from Sundarban forest. Forest Department is very alert and sincere to protect deer and other wild animals of Sundarbans but due to the shortage of man power and modern water vessels their efforts cannot be materialized fully.
On the other hand, tiger monitoring processing has already started in Sundarban forest from February 11, 2018.
Coast Guard sources said, acting on secret information a contingent of the forces stationed at Dublarchar CG patrol outpost raided near Majhekilla of Sundarban forest at the night of February 15 but sensing the appearance of the Coast Guard. the hunters of deer fled away from there. Then coastguards searched the area and recovered a skin of a spotted deer of Sundarban forest from there. Later, they recovered skin was handed over to Dubla forest office for taking necessary action.

Md. But the poachers managed to escape. The recovered flesh and heads were handed over to Mehedi Hasan, ACF (Assistant Conservator of Forest), Bagerhat forest Division. In this connection a case was registered with Ramapl PS against 3 persons under Wild Animal Preservation Act.
Such incidents are being taken place in the different places of Sundarban forest and its adjacent areas. In many cases the poachers, mainly hail from the localities enter the forest under the dark of night, hunt deer for selling their flesh, heads and skins in the black-markets.
In the year 2011 a NGO conducted a survey in the 4 ranges of Sundarban forest with Dhaka and Jahangirnagar Universities on the hunting of deer. Besides the 2 universities, London Geological Society also assisted the organization to conduct the survey. According to the survey, some 11 thousand 1 (one) hundred 95 spotted deer of Sundarban forest were hunted illegally in the year. After that no survey was conducted on the deer of the forest. Though there are controversial opinions about the survey report, the poaching of deer increased abnormally very recently.
Md. Bashirul Alam, DFO , Western Division , Sundarban forest told the newsmen, the poachers always try to do this illegal act of hunting deer in the forest after deceiving the forest guards and at the night it (hunting of deer) is a very easy task.
