General Secretary of Awami League and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will speak to the nation through a press briefing on November 8 or 9 about the outcome of the ongoing dialogue with different political parties.
The AL GS said this while talking to the media about the current political situation at his Secretariat office on Monday.
Two demands out of seven of the Jatiya Okiyafront have already been accepted, the minister said.
“The next dialogue with the Oikyafront leaders will be held on November 7. We will hear their demands if found constitutional, logical and relevant. Nothing will be accepted if it is beyond the Constitution,” Obaidul Quader said.
The Election Commission will hold the election as per the Constitution.
Nothing will remain under the government’s control after the announcement of the election schedule on November 8, he said.
“There is no pressure. We’re holding dialogue breaking all the records of the past so that no fear and doubt remain in the political arena about the election,” he said.
About the progress of the dialogue, Obaidul Quader said, “Absolutely, there is catching progress. The positive thing is that the Prime Minister is holding dialogue. We were against the dialogue. After hearing the Prime Minister’s positive opinion about it, we got surprised first…we’ll however do everything upon the Prime Minister’s directives.”
Responding to another question whether Khaleda Zia will be able to participate in the election or not, the minister said it is not a matter of the government, the Court will decide.
“The election will be held on the scheduled date. We’re ready to contest the election and we’ll resist those who’ll try to foil it,” he said.
