Sylhet Bureau :
Academics, students and civil society members on Monday in Sylhet demanded immediate intervention of prime minister Sheikh Hasina to arrest the killers of Abu Tawhid Jewel, a lecturer of Jamalganj Degree College in Sunamganj, and their speedy trial.
They made the demand while they were addressing a rally after forming a human chain in front of Central Shaheed Minar at Chowhatta in Sylhet city in the morning.
Jewel, a lecturer of History department of the college and a resident of Kakiam village of Selbarash union under Dharmapasha upazila in Sunamganj, was hacked to death on December 1 last year by his neighbours following a quarrel over a disputed land.
Speakers at the rally alleged that police did not arrest anyone although they informed police the killers’ exact whereabouts.
They cautioned the police administration and said that they would launch tougher movement if the police did not arrest the accused.
