PM’s France tour cancelled

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cancelled her scheduled three-day visit to France following the Friday night’s deadly terror attacks in Paris that killed at least 130 people and injured over 200.
She was scheduled to leave for France today (Monday) to attend the ‘Leaders’ Forum’ in Paris hosted by the UNESCO on November 16-17. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also scheduled to hold
 meeting with French President Francois Hollande. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is not going to France to attend ‘Leaders’ Forum’ to be hosted by UNESCO on November 16-17,” a diplomat preferring not to be named told The New Nation on Sunday On November 16, UNESCO will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the adoption of its Constitution.
Earlier, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova invited Bangladesh Prime Minister to address the Forum, the diplomat said. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali was supposed to brief the journalists on Sunday at 3pm on the Prime Minister’s official visit to France on November 16-18 and upcoming CHOGM in Malta.
On Sunday morning, the Foreign Ministry postponed the press briefing saying, ‘the press briefing’ has been postponed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances.’
Officials at the Bangladesh Embassy in France said, they have briefed Dhaka about the overall situation there.
Asked whether there has been any change in the Prime Minister’s Paris visit, Bangladesh Ambassador to France M Shahidul Islam in an email communication told that the authority rested with Dhaka to make a decision.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to meet Bangladesh envoys posted in European countries on November 17 in Paris in an effort to boost Bangladesh’s ties with Europe.
