PM urges honorary consuls general to work for boosting BD-Italy trade ties

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the honorary consuls general of Bangladesh in Italy to intensify their efforts in motivating Italian entrepreneurs to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister made the call when five honorary consuls general of Bangladesh in Italy called on her at Hotel Carlton Baglloni in the Italian city of Milan on Friday afternoon.
After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Bijan Lal Dev briefed reporters, according to a message received here. Hasina said the trade relations with Italy will have to be strengthened further as Bangladesh has huge potentials on ceramic, pharmaceutical, leather and leather goods, and readymade garments. In this regard, she requested the consuls general to take initiatives to encourage the exchange of business delegations between Italy and Bangladesh. Such steps could help encourage Italian investors for investing in Bangladesh as well as relocate Italian industries. About the prevailing stability and political situation, Hasina said, there are huge opportunities for investing in Bangladesh in various sectors.
The Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction over the role of consuls general in extending their supports and advocacy to the Bangladesh Community people in Italy.
At the meeting, the Consuls General highly appreciated the Prime Minister for her able and dynamic leadership in achieving Bangladesh’ s socioeconomic development.
Opportunities to improve mutual trade and entrepreneurship are expanding, they said adding that they in cooperation with the embassy will try to explore that.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmod Ali, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy M Shahadat Hossain and FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed were present.
