Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged people with symptoms of the mosquito-borne dengue fever to undergo blood tests before leaving Dhaka to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha with their loved ones, said Awami League leader Obaidul Quader
The prime minister made the call at a programme in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area shortly after her return from London following a successful surgery on her left eye. “The prime minister has urged homebound people to remain alert against dengue. People with dengue symptoms have also been urged to undergo blood tests before leaving Dhaka for their village homes,” Quader said. The road, transport and bridges minister outlined some of the symptoms of dengue, including extreme headache, vomiting, nausea, sudden fever, pain behind eyes and skin rash. “I just mentioned here all of her [Sheikh Hasina] suggestions to the people which she said upon her arrival from London. I hope we all will remain conscious to protect ourselves and we will take necessary measures to stay safe.” The number of dengue patients has been recorded at 34,600 so far this year across Bangladesh. The Directorate General of Health Services confirmed the deaths of 23 from dengue. However, media reports say the death toll is several times higher. The government has already expressed concerns over the spread of dengue across Bangladesh with millions of people leaving Dhaka to celebrate the Eid in cities, towns and villages.
