PM urges countrymen to know real history of Liberation War

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the countrymen to know the true history of the Liberation War.
“The independence earned through the sacrifice of millions of people is the greatest achievement of Bangalee nation. To make the achievement meaningful, all have to know the true history of the Liberation War and retain the spirit and spread it generation to generation,” she said.
In a message on the eve of the Independence and National Day, the Prime Minister, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, greeted the countrymen and all expatriate Bangalees and paid deep homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the War of Liberation in 1971.
“We are committed to reaching the fruits of our independence at each home. Our target is to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041,” Sheikh Hasina said.
“Awami League whenever came to power remained devoted to taking the country forward with the spirit of independence and freedom fight. During the last six years, we implemented huge development
 works in all sectors, including agriculture, education, health, communication, energy and power, ICT, urban and rural development, human resources, social safety-net and women empowerment,” she said.
“As a result, people’s purchasing power, per capita income, foreign reserves, export, FDI and employment opportunity have multiplied manifold. Bangladesh has turned into a role-model for development. Various nations and world bodies have lauded and recognized our achievements,” the Premier added.
Urging the countrymen to be united, the PM said, “The BNP-Jamaat hoodlums are carrying out subversive activities in 71-style. They are killing people by hurling petrol bombs but the countrymen have to be united to face any ill-attempt against independence, democracy and anti-country activities.
The Prime Minister hoped that every Bangalee imbued with patriotism would engage themselves in efforts to turn Bangladesh into a peaceful, non-communal and middle-income country at the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh.
She said Bangladesh would be established as a dignified nation in the comity of nations. “Let us come and build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation being imbued with ideals of Liberation War. This is our fresh vow on this great day,” the Premier said.
The 26 March, the Prime Minister said, is the day of earning self-identity, it’s a day of breaking the shackles of subjugation.
“On this auspicious occasion of the Independence Day, I pay my deep homage to the greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose dynamic leadership we earned our great independence,” she said.
The Prime Minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of the 26 March, 1971 after the occupation forces launched sudden attacks on the innocent and unarmed Bangalees on the black night of March 25, 1971.
She said Bangabandhu’s proclamation was spread all over the country through telegrams, tele-printers and the wireless of the then EPR. In each and every district and subdivision, Awami League leaders and workers publicized the declaration widely through microphones.
Sheikh Hasina said the international media also had circulated Bangabandhu’s proclamation of independence. “Under the brave and dauntless leadership of Bangabandhu, we earned the ultimate victory on the 16th of December, 1971 after a nine-month bloody war.”
She said the independence earned through the sacrifice of millions of people is the greatest achievement of Bangalee nation.
The Prime Minister recalled with deep gratitude the great leader of the liberation struggle, the greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose dynamic leadership the nation earned the Great Independence.
She also recalled the contribution of four national leaders and the valiant freedom fighters, who had fought against the Pakistani occupation forces to free the country.
She paid deep homage to the three million martyrs and 200 thousand women who lost their chastity in the War of Liberation in 1971.
The Prime Minister recalled the memory of those who had lost their near and dear ones, and were subjected to brutal torture and persecution during the war and foreign friends who had extended their wholehearted support and cooperation to the cause of our liberation.
