UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Wednesday slammed the Prime Minister for her comment that its chairperson Khaleda Zia embezzled orphans’ money, saying Sheikh Hasina tried to influence the trial of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with her remark on a on a sub-judice matter.
How there could be the rule of law, good governance and democracy when only one person is the head of the state, head of the government, chief of trial and chief investigator. She (PM) said
Khaleda Zia misappropriated orphans’ money. With her comment, she (PM) has given a verdict on a sub-judice matter, said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at a discussion, he further said, A false case was filed and investigation carried out into it and now the trial is on. But, you (PM) have already completed the probe, determined accused and given the verdict. Do the judges need to deliver any verdict now?
Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote arranged the programme at Kochi Kachar Mela auditorium in the city marking the second anniversary of noted filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam.
In 2008, the Anti Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against six people, including Zia and her son Tarique Rahman. Dhaka’s Third Special Judges Court has long been conducting the hearing on case.
Fakhrul said, their party can assume what will be the verdict of the case when the Prime Minister continues to speak about the case of a former prime minister. When the chief executive says some thing like that, we can easily understand in which direction the case will be diverted.
He, however, warned that the government will not be able to suppress the country’s democracy-loving people by filing a false case against Khaleda and influencing its trial.
The BNP leader also criticised the Prime Minister for asking Khaleda to learn the language of democracy. It’s an irony those who don’t believe in democracy and use democracy for their benefits is saying it. From whom we need to learn democratic language those who annihilated democracy in 1975 by establishing one-party rule and doing the same now undercover.
