UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Saudi Arabia on May 20-22 to attend the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh.
Saudi King and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudhas sent a message to the Prime Minister inviting her to join the summit to be hosted by his country, a senior Foreign Ministry official told UNB on Sunday.
The official, however, did not elaborate on other engagements of Sheikh Hasina during her stay in the KSA.
On May 12, Saudi Speaker Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh during a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali mentioned about the upcoming Arab Islamic American Summit to be held in Riyadh on May 21 and hoped that leaderships of the Muslim Ummah would engage constructively for peace and stability in the region.
US President Donald Trump, among others, will attend the summit to mark his first visit to the Kingdom since he assumed the office as 45th US President in January last.
The meeting will focus on ways to enhance the cooperation between the American and the Muslim countries in fight against extremism.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir recently said US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia would include a bilateral summit, a meeting with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) leaders and another with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries.
“It’s a very clear message to the world that the US and the Arab and Islamic countries can form a partnership. This visit will enhance, we believe, cooperation between the US and Arab and Islamic countries in combating terrorism and extremism,” Al-Jubeir was quoted as saying in a statement.
